You Can Now Search By Circling

Google has recently introduced a new feature, "Circle to Search", enhancing the ease of conducting searches directly from a phone screen. This intuitive feature, initially available on select devices including Samsung’s Galaxy S24 series and Google’s Pixel 8 models, allows users to circle an object or text on their screen and instantly receive Google search results about the highlighted item. The process is streamlined, omitting the need to switch between apps or upload screenshots.

The simplicity of this feature lies in its integration with the phone's interface. Users can activate Circle to Search by a long press on the home button or navigation handle, depending on their phone's navigation style. This allows the feature to overlay on any app or screen currently in use. In practice, it efficiently isolates search subjects and returns relevant results, simplifying the search process significantly.

In conjunction with Circle to Search, Google has updated its multisearch feature within Google Lens. Multisearch allows users to combine visual searches with text queries, enhancing the depth and specificity of search results. For instance, users can take a photo of an item and add a query like, “How often should I water this plant?” or explore the popularity of a trend.

While Circle to Search is currently limited to select premium Android phones, the updated multisearch feature is available more broadly, accessible in the Google app on both Android and iOS devices in the U.S.

What does this mean for ecommerce sellers?

For ecommerce sellers, Google's Circle to Search and enhanced multisearch capabilities present new opportunities for product visibility and customer engagement. These features could potentially change the way consumers discover products. Additionally, this development emphasizes the importance of SEO that caters to visual and conversational search.
