Meta’s Chatbots For The Young

At its Meta Connect event, Meta unveiled AI chatbots aimed at increasing engagement among younger audiences. The chatbots are designed with vibrant personalities, including sarcastic robots and celebrity assistants, to provide entertaining interactions. Meta is developing dozens of chatbots that can be customized and interact across its platforms.

The goal is to get younger generations, especially Gen Z, to spend more time on Meta's apps by offering lively conversations beyond passive scrolling. This could lead to increased ad revenue. Some chatbots will focus on functionality like aiding with coding tasks. But much emphasis is on replicating the fun, interactive appeal of competing apps popular among youth.

Chatbots have seen major growth lately, and rivals like Character AI draw hundreds of millions of monthly visitors. Meta aims to capitalize on this trend to regain footing among teenage audiences lost to TikTok. Striking the right tone will be key to making conversational AI seem useful yet playful. If successful, personalized bots could reinvigorate engagement among critical demographics for Meta's growth.

It’s about recapturing the GenZ audience. And it’s probably for collecting data. And it’s probably for finding new ways to sell ad slots to advertisers. All of these are probably good news for you dear Ecom seller.

DALL-E 3 Is Probably Quite Awesome

Notice the Text In the Image Which DALL-E 3 produced

OpenAI's got something cool up its sleeve! They've just previewed DALL-E 3, their upgraded image generator that's soon rolling out in ChatGPT for Plus users. Word is, this new DALL-E version can whip up images that can give platforms like Midjourney and Stable Diffusion a run for their money.

Here's the lowdown:

  1. DALL-E's now pretty good at including text in images.

  2. You just drop a simple prompt, and bam, you get an image—no need to be a prompt wiz.

  3. And here's a cherry on top: it's baked right into ChatGPT, making it more user-friendly than, say, Midjourney on Discord.

So, what's the big deal? Well, we're diving into the era of multimodal AI. That's tech-speak for AI that gets both text and images. DALL-E 3's launch might just mean OpenAI is getting a head start, even before Google's rumored Gemini makes an entrance (about that, read further).

Alexa Gets A Major AI Upgrade

Amazon unveiled a significant upgrade to Alexa, incorporating a custom-built large language model (LLM) to enhance its conversational capabilities. The revamped Alexa promises to be "smarter, more conversational" with a voice that’s more “realistic” and “casual.”

A few highlights:

  • The new Alexa LLM boasts real-time information, reduced latency, and is expected to surpass OpenAI’s ChatGPT in terms of real-world applications.

  • Demonstrations showcased Alexa’s ability to recall personalized data, like a user's favorite football team, and execute tasks like drafting and sending messages.

  • Developers, including Character.AI and Splash, have started integrating their custom LLMs into Alexa, broadening its utility.

  • Enhanced features include an improved text-to-speech engine, a revamped automatic speech recognition system, and for Echo Show users, a more intuitive visual interaction without repeatedly summoning Alexa.

Better Voice Assistant =More Voice-Activated Shipping. The ability for Alexa to provide real-time information and recall personalized data will also play into how Amazon gets loyal shoppers to repurchase products or discover new ones. Amazon is currently weaving an awesome AI game across all of it’s products and Alexa is yet one more piece of the puzzle.

What’s New And Next For ChatGPT?

OpenAI's ChatGPT just added a couple of groundbreaking features set to roll out for Plus and Enterprise users soon.

First, ChatGPT can now comprehend uploaded images - think screenshots, photos, documents, and more. This means understanding complex graphs, giving feedback on designs, and categorizing pictures of receipts. Even helping fix a broken bike or locating Waldo in a crowd!

Second, ChatGPT isn’t just typing anymore; it's talking! With five professionally trained voices, it'll be a handy companion, especially when you’d prefer to listen rather than read. Imagine having a smarter voice assistant integrated into your daily tasks.

What’s next? Sam Altman, OpenAI’s CEO hinted at the enhancements we might see with GPT-5 and GPT-6 last week at a Y Combinator reunion. These future models, he suggested, would offer enhanced reliability, personalization, and multimodal outputs. The rest TBC.
