Guide: Creating Pinterest Pins with AI

Pinterest serves as both a visual search engine and inspiration platform, making it valuable for product marketing. Well-designed Pins that align with current trends typically see higher engagement and reach. However, creating Pinterest content that both follows design best practices and incorporates trending aesthetics has traditionally required design expertise and trend research.

While many marketers know AI could help create Pinterest content, they often struggle to balance platform requirements with trending visual styles. This guide shows how to use ChatGPT tools to create Pinterest Pins that meet technical specifications while incorporating current Pinterest trends.

What You'll Need

  • ChatGPT Access:

    • GPT-4o for image creation

    • Claude for brainstorming layouts and concepts

  • Materials:

    • A clear product image with neutral background

    • Your brand guidelines (colors, fonts, logo)

    • (Optional) Examples of Pins you like for reference

  • Tools:

    • A way to organize your work (Google Sheets, Notion, etc.)

    • A Pinterest Business account for publishing

  • Title: Maximum 100 characters (put important keywords first)

  • Description: Maximum 500 characters, focused on benefits and keywords

Research Current Trends

Step 2: Develop Layout Concepts

Use Claude to brainstorm design ideas:

Example Prompt:

You're a Pinterest design strategist. We want to create a 1000×1500 Pin for [Product Name], using our brand colors [list your colors]. We want to incorporate these Pinterest trends: "Clean Beauty" (minimalist, soft colors) and "Warm Minimalism" (cozy, neutral tones).

Please suggest 3 layout concepts:
1. How to arrange the product, text, and logo
2. Text overlay ideas (4-7 words, large and readable)
3. Logo placement options
4. How to incorporate the trend elements (colors, textures, mood)

Choose Your Favorite Concept:

  • Select the layout that best fits your brand and product

Step 3: Create Your Pin with GPT-4o

  1. Upload Your Product Image

    • Start with your clean product photo

  2. Write a Detailed Design Prompt Example:

You're an expert Pinterest designer. Create a 1000×1500 Pin with these elements:

• Product: Use the uploaded product image as the main focus
• Layout: [paste your chosen concept details]
• Trend Style: Incorporate "Clean Beauty" with a soft, neutral background
• Text Overlay: "Glow Naturally" in large, white text on a colored banner
• Logo: Small logo in bottom-right corner
• Overall Style: Clean, minimal design that catches attention while scrolling

Make it look professional and Pinterest-ready.
  1. Review and Refine

    • Check if the text is large enough to read on mobile

    • Make sure the product is clearly visible

    • Ask for adjustments if needed: "Make the text larger" or "Soften the background color"

  2. Save Your Pin

    • Download the final image with a descriptive filename

Step 4: Write Pin Copy and Accessibility Information

  1. Create Your Pin Text

    • Title (under 100 characters): Example: "Glow Naturally with [Product Name] - Clean Beauty Skincare"

    • Description (under 500 characters): Example: "Discover our clean beauty formula for radiant, healthy skin. Perfect for your natural skincare routine. Shop now for exclusive savings! #cleanbeauty #skincare #naturalbeauty"

  2. Add Alt Text (under 120 characters)

    • Start with "Ad:" Example: "Ad: Minimalist Pin showing skincare product with 'Glow Naturally' headline on cream background"

  3. Include Relevant Keywords

    • Use terms related to your product and the trends you incorporated

    • Include hashtags that Pinterest users search for

Why This Approach Works

This method works because it combines Pinterest's platform requirements with current visual trends. Pinterest users often come to the platform looking for inspiration and trending ideas, so Pins that reflect current aesthetics perform better in both search and recommendations.

By using AI to generate designs, you can quickly test different visual approaches and trend combinations without needing specialized design skills.

Important Tips

  • Mobile-First Design: Most Pinterest users browse on mobile, so ensure text is large and clear

  • Trend Balance: Incorporate trends without overwhelming your product or brand identity

  • Keyword Strategy: Use trending keywords in your Pin copy to improve discoverability

  • Test and Learn: Try different design approaches to see what resonates with your audience
