ChatGPT’s Massive Update

Pretty exciting news here for any ChatGPT Plus users. OpenAI has updated ChatGPT, bringing substantial improvements to its functionality and user interface. The enhancements include:

  1. Automated Model Selection: ChatGPT now automatically picks the best model for tasks, such as coding in Python, browsing the web, or creating images, making interactions more efficient.

  2. File Upload and Analysis: ChatGPT Plus users can now upload files like PDFs for ChatGPT to summarize, answer questions about, or create data visualizations from.

  3. Multimodal Support: The AI can seamlessly switch between different modes of operation, streamlining the user experience.

  4. Enhanced ChatGPT Plus: Advanced features once exclusive to Enterprise users are now part of ChatGPT Plus, including enhanced file analysis.

  5. Direct Internet Browsing: ChatGPT can now access and browse the web on its own, removing the need for extra plugins.

  6. Integrated Features: Functions previously reliant on external plugins are now built into ChatGPT, making it more accessible and user-friendly.

Extra Bonus: ChatGPT’s cut off date is now Sep 2023. Boom!

What does this mean for ecommerce sellers?

As long as you are not the CEO of one of the tech wrappers like “Chat with PDF” that were built on top of ChatGPT, this is only good news for you. The chat with PDF function is cool, tho I do recommend you still use Claude 2 for that for the much larger context window. The multimodal support however is brilliant: think about a use case where you analyse a lot of data using Advanced Analytics, and then in the same chat feed some real time insight through Browse with Bing. A whole market research done in one single chat 💕

Meta’s New Features To Help Creators Optimize Their Content

Meta has launched a new experimental feature for Reels on Facebook aimed at helping creators optimize their content. Part of the Professional Dashboard, this A/B testing tool allows creators to test up to four different combinations of captions and thumbnails for their Reels. During the test phase, the version with the most views becomes the official variant on the creator's page.

Furthermore, Meta is exploring generative AI to assist in creating captions and thumbnails, although this development is ongoing. The objective is to maximize viewership of user-generated content, which can drive more traffic to Facebook and potentially earn money for creators through Meta's bonus programs.

Simply put, we are getting closer and closer to fully AI-created/optimized creatives for social.

Google’s Getting Those Ads Into SGE (Of Course)

Google is experimenting with integrating different types of advertisements into its generative AI-enhanced search experience.

During its Q3 2023 earnings call, CEO Sundar Pichai emphasized the company's efforts to develop native ad formats that are tailored to various stages of a user's search journey.

The company has been showcasing potential ad placements within the search experience, including customized ads that appear in response to search queries, marked with a "sponsored" label.

Users could encounter a range of tailored advertisements that blend organically with their search results. For instance, if someone is searching for a surfing adventure in Maui, an ad might appear within the search interface displaying a bespoke travel package complete with vivid images, a "sponsored" tag, and a call to action that fits seamlessly into the narrative of the search.

When looking for products, a user might see sponsored suggestions pop up, offering purchase options that closely match the search query. These could be displayed in a conversational format, mimicking the flow of the AI's responses, or as visually distinct cards that highlight the product's features, making the ads both informative and subtly integrated within the AI's search responses.

What does this mean for ecommerce sellers?

This is classic Google, doing Google. Just put an ad on it. But for ecom sellers this could be a very interesting opportunity particularly in the short term until the novelty wears off. Think about it: Audiences fascinated by this new way of searching and interacting with Google, not necessarily discerning between paid and organic results (just yet).

Midjourney’s Massive Update

Midjourney introduced a significant feature called the "style tuner". This is pretty much a game-changer for enterprises, brands, and creators aiming for visual consistency in storytelling.

What it does is, it enables users to define a unique visual style and consistently apply this aesthetic to all images created within the application. Previously, users had to manually input descriptive text for each image to achieve a uniform style, which was not always successful due to the inherently diverse output of AI art generators.

With the style tuner, users can now choose a preferred style, receive a code, and use this code for future image generations to maintain the same look across their projects. Additionally, users have the option to save this code, share it with team members, or use it across different projects within their organization, ensuring cohesive visual storytelling and simplifying collaborative creative processes.

What does this mean for ecommerce sellers?

For anyone who uses Midjourney for commercial purposes (I hope I see a raise of hands), this is a biggie as it means you can replicate the same style across all of your outputs going forward. Think a series of social ads which you want to A/B test.
